At Inertia, we’re always looking for ways to reduce waste and give our clients more bang for the buck by getting products to market faster.
Consider almost any type of physical product. Whether it is a racecar, an office chair, a child car seat, or a delivery truck, one common theme is that they all are used by humans and interact in a variety of ways with the human body – and they are all very complex systems.
In a past Prezi entitled Lean Practices in Product Development Engineering, I wrote about how Inertia combines Philosophy + Methods + Tools + Discipline to strive for excellence in lean product development. One such lean engineering tool we’ve recently implemented is 3D Human Modeling in Siemens NX.
By using the 3D Human Modeling module, Inertia continues to push the envelope in lean engineering by giving our engineers the tools to quickly and accurately understand and optimize product designs and ergonomics around various sizes and positions of the human body. What does that mean for our clients?
-
better products
-
faster time to market
-
reduced product development costs
Ask any engineer or designer that has had to perform an occupant packaging study for vehicle seating and controls using four or five different sized human models and they will tell you how much time is spent just scaling and manipulating CAD mannequin limbs. Been there, done that, now it’s time to do it better – much better. What used to take a day now takes us mere minutes. How lean is that?
Like my dad always says…”The right tool makes the job.”
